Putter Fitting

The club you use more than any other, fit against how you actually roll the ball.

A Putter Fitting takes an hour and runs on SAM PuttLab, which reads 28 parameters of your stroke in seconds. Almost everybody is surprised by their own numbers: where the face points at impact is rarely where it feels like it points. The fitting sets length, loft, lie and toe hang against the measurement rather than the feeling.

A stroke measured, then a putter matched to it

Four specs decide whether a putter starts the ball where you aim. All four are measurements, and none of them is a preference.

Length and lie

Setup and eye position

What we measure

Aim, face angle at address

The ball starting where you actually aim.

Loft

Delivered loft at impact

What we measure

Launch, skid, roll

A ball that rolls sooner instead of hopping.

Toe hang

Head balance against your arc

What we measure

Face rotation through impact

A face that squares itself rather than needing timing.

Grip and weight

Feel and head weight

What we measure

Tempo, consistency of pace

Distance control on the long ones.

The putter is included in a Full Bag Fitting. This session is for golfers who only want the flatstick looked at.

21yards gained off the tee, on average, in the Golf Digest study (2013)

Averages are averages, and these come from a study rather than a promise. Here is what golfers say about their own fittings.

The tools that make it measurable

Three systems cover the whole bag and the decisions behind it, and all of them are in every Club Champion studio.

Trackman

The radar the PGA measures on, built on the same tracking technology used for military projectiles. It reads ball speed, spin, launch and club delivery on every swing, so a shaft or head change shows up as a number instead of a feeling.

SAM PuttLab

Ultrasound analysis that reads 28 parameters of your putting stroke in seconds. It sets your putter’s length, loft, lie and toe hang against how you actually roll the ball, not how you think you do.

AI Fitter Co-Pilot

More than 65,000 head and shaft combinations exist across the brands we carry. Our fitting software reads your session data live and narrows that field to the handful your numbers actually support, so your fitter spends the session testing rather than searching.

Each piece is sourced separately, weight-sorted and assembled to tight tolerances by a Master Builder, then checked back against your build sheet. Change one and the numbers change.

How a Putter Fitting runs

Talk through your game

Where you lose strokes on the green, and what you putt with now.

What you walk out with

Every spec written down, and a build that matches it.

Your build sheet

The session ends with a build sheet listing the exact specs for every club it covered: head, shaft, length, lie, loft, swingweight and grip. Alongside it sits an itemized recommendation showing what each piece costs.

Nothing is bundled and nothing is withheld. The sheet is yours to keep whether you order that day or not.

No spiffs, no house brand

Your fitter is paid the same whatever you buy. There is no incentive to steer you toward one manufacturer, so the recommendation on your sheet is the one your numbers produced.

Built by Master Builders

Your order goes to a build shop, not an assembly line. Master Builders assemble each club to the specs on your sheet, and we email you as it moves.

SST PUREing

No shaft is perfectly consistent around its axis. SST PUREing finds each shaft’s most stable orientation and aligns it that way in the build.

Putter Fitting questions, answered

What golfers ask most before booking a putter session.

What happens in a putter fitting?

A putter fitting starts with a conversation about your game, then moves to the SAM PuttLab bay where your stroke is calibrated and measured across 28+ variables to 0.1-degree accuracy as you putt. Your Master Fitter reviews the results with you and recommends putters aimed at fewer putts per round.

Is a putter fitting worth it?

Yes — the putter is used on nearly every hole and contributes a major share of your total score, so fitting it correctly has an outsized impact on scoring.

Why does the length of a putter matter?

Putter length affects your posture, eye line, arm hang, and stroke movement, all of which influence your speed, launch angle, and roll trajectory on the green.

Can Club Champion fit my existing putter?

Yes — you’ll go through the full putter fitting process, and Club Champion can then modify your current putter to match your ideal specifications if needed.

Can a putter fitting improve distance control?

Yes — a putter matched to your stroke can meaningfully improve distance control and accuracy, particularly on mishit putts.

What is toe hang on a putter?

Toe hang is how much the toe of the putter head drops when the shaft is balanced horizontally, measured in degrees. Toe-hang putters typically suit golfers with an arcing putting stroke.

What is a face-balanced putter?

A face-balanced putter stays square to the horizontal plane when the shaft is balanced, and typically suits golfers with a straight-back, straight-through putting stroke.

What is a zero-torque putter?

A zero-torque putter aligns the shaft axis directly with the putter head’s center of gravity, keeping the face more square to the stroke path throughout.

How often should I get fit for a putter?

There’s no fixed interval — come in when you’re considering a new putter and let the data show whether an upgrade is worthwhile.
