What is a junior golf club fitting?

A junior golf club fitting matches a young golfer’s clubs to their height, strength and swing. A Club Champion fitter measures length, lie angle, shaft flex, club weight and grip size using launch monitor data, then tests options from every major brand. The result is a set that’s easier to swing, launches higher and builds better habits as the player grows.

What to expect

1. Talk

Your fitter learns the player’s goals, experience and current clubs.

2. Measure

Height, wrist-to-floor, hand size and swing speed set the starting specs.

3. Test

The player hits options on a launch monitor while the fitter compares launch, spin, distance and accuracy.

4. Build

Clubs are built to the final specs in our build shop.

Bring the player’s current clubs, golf shoes and a glove. A parent or guardian should attend.

Why fitting matters more for juniors

Too long or too heavy clubs teach bad habits

Juniors compensate with their posture and swing, and those habits stick.

Cut-down adult clubs don’t work

Shortening a shaft makes it play stiffer, so the club gets harder to launch, not easier.

The right specs build confidence

Clubs that fit launch the ball higher and straighter, which keeps kids enjoying the game.

Juniors change fast

A growth spurt can change the right length and flex in a single season.

Frequently asked questions

What size golf clubs does my child need?

The right size depends on height, wrist-to-floor measurement and swing speed, not age alone. Clubs that are too long or heavy make it harder to swing correctly. A fitting measures all three and tests the options on a launch monitor.

Can I just cut down adult clubs for my child?

It isn’t recommended. Cutting down a shaft makes it play stiffer and changes the club’s balance, so it becomes harder for a junior to launch the ball. Junior-specific heads and shafts are lighter and more flexible.

What should my junior bring to the fitting?

Bring their current clubs, golf shoes and a glove. If they have recent scores or a handicap, bring those too.

Is a junior fitting worth it?

Yes, for any junior who plays regularly. Properly fit clubs make the game easier to learn, prevent swing compensations that become habits, and keep young players enjoying golf.
