Club Champion Lands on the Inc. 5000 List of Fastest Growing Companies

The international club fitter has more than 115 locations worldwide

Willowbrook, IL – Club Champion has been named to the Inc. 5000 list, celebrating the fastest-growing private companies in America. The prestigious ranking provides a data-driven look at the most successful companies within the economy’s independent, entrepreneurial businesses.

“Running a business has only gotten harder since the end of the pandemic,” says Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk. “To make the Inc. 5000 – with the fast growth that it requires – is truly an accomplishment. Inc. is thrilled to honor the companies that are building our future.”

This is Club Champion’s first time on the list, landing at number 3712. Club Champion has more than 115 studios nationwide, and fits, sells, and builds custom golf clubs using brands like Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist, Cobra, Fujikura, Golf Pride, and many more. The company delivers a Tour-level fitting that produces longer, more accurate shots with a nearly 100% satisfaction rate for golfers of any ability level.

Ranked by Golf Digest as one of the 100 Best Club Fitters twelve years running, Club Champion has a unique coupling system used to combine any head and shaft together, so golfers hit the precise combination to be custom built for them. They are the only fitter in the country to offer 65,000 interchangeable head and shaft combinations at all locations. In July, Club Champion also introduced new AI technology with their Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot. This new addition to the brand’s US fitting studios was designed to help fitters get to the best equipment more quickly during a custom fitting.

“Many players think they aren’t good enough to be custom fit, but we’ve participated in multiple third-party studies that showed higher handicappers saw the biggest gains,” said Sherburne. “Some of these golfers shaved as many as ten strokes per round.”

Club Champion and Tour Experience Golf Officially Merge Branding

Social media accounts, brand messaging, and more will now be under one brand name

Willowbrook, IL – Following the acquisition of renowned Canadian club fitter, Tour Experience Golf (TXG) in 2022, top US club fitter, Club Champion, has officially brought the Canadian branding under the Club Champion umbrella. On August 1, the TXG brand will transition to Club Champion and their physical stores will be represented as Club Champion Canada.

“This is an exciting move and one we’ve been collectively working toward for some time,” said Nick Sherburne, Club Champion founder. “For over a year, we’ve been working together behind the scenes but viewed outwardly as separate — this branding update will give our audiences more clarity and reinforce what we already see as a united team.”

With this rebrand, Canadian golfers will notice subtle Club Champion branding in the Canadian stores, but the biggest change will come from a social media perspective. Since the initial merger announcement, TXG has been the functional content team for both the Canadian brand and Club Champion. All social media and content creation has operated under a joint TXG by Club Champion brand; these accounts have continued to grow, with an audience of 70,000+ on Instagram and over 70 million views on YouTube. Now, all of those properties will revert to Club Champion branding.

As for brick and mortar, Club Champion Canada currently has four studios — Calgary, Mississauga, The Pulpit, and Toronto — with plans to expand to Vancouver and beyond. With a new address in Calgary and a new concept at The Pulpit, Club Champion Canada is finding new real estate formats to bring Tour-level improvement to every golfer.

“This is an exciting time for our brands,” said TXG founder, Ian Fraser. “The initial merger made sense given our shared fitting philosophies and this new step makes sense as well to unite the brands and keep growing in both the fitting and content spaces.”

Club Champion Included In Golf Digest’s America’s 100 Best Clubfitters List

Chicago-based fitter earns top club fitting recognition for a seventh time

Willowbrook, IL – Club Champion was named to Golf Digest’s 2023-24 America’s 100 Best Clubfitters list! Since the prestigious biennial ranking’s inception in 2011, the custom club fitter has been included by Golf Digest as one of the top places to visit for custom fitting services in the United States.

Club Champion is the nation’s top fitter, builder, and retailer of the best brands in golf. The company delivers a Tour-quality fitting experience for golfers of any ability level with over 65,000 hittable head and shaft combinations. The award-winning Club Champion fitting studios can be found in major markets and golf meccas across the country, with plans to expand even further in 2023.

According to the Golf Digest publication, more than 1,000 facilities were reviewed. The application process included nomination forms that detailed each facility’s resources, tools, expertise, and fitting methodology. They also conducted a poll of leading equipment-company experts and their nationwide panel of more than 2,000 Golf Digest course-ranking panelists. In addition, for the first time ever, an online poll of Golf Digest subscribers generated nearly 10,000 votes.

“It’s been 12 years since the first list and we still love getting the email from our friends at Golf Digest saying we’ve made the rankings,” said Nick Sherburne, founder of Club Champion. “It’s something we’re extremely proud of and we make a point to include that recognition in our stores and materials.”

Club Champion has more than 110 studios nationwide and has the highest number of locations included in the Best Clubfitter ranking out of all retailers. Since Golf Digest’s last ranking in 2021, Club Champion acquired popular Canadian club fitter, Tour Experience Golf (TXG); UK-based fitter, Golf Principles; and Australian fitter, PureForm, to add 10 locations internationally. And just this month, the brand introduced new AI technology with their AI Fitter Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot. This new addition to the brand’s US fitting studios was designed to help fitters get to the best equipment more quickly during a custom fitting.

Club Champion Launches — Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot

Top club fitter introduces new technology for even more impactful fittings

Willowbrook, IL – Club Champion, the globe’s top custom golf club fitter, is already recognized for a data-driven, technological approach to club fitting. Now, they’ve introduced a new level of technology to further cement their position at the top of the game — the A.I.-based “Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot.”

This new addition to the brand’s US fitting studios was designed to help fitters get to the best equipment more quickly during a custom fitting.

“Golfers can only swing so many times during a club fitting. This new Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot takes data from nearly one million swings per month and distills everything down to actionable data that gets our team to the solution faster,” said Nick Sherburne, founder of Club Champion and the driving force behind the new A.I. system. “Our fitters are directing the system but the program is quickly narrowing our huge demo matrix down to data-supported recommendations without wasting time or energy testing components that won’t work for the golfer.”

As Sherburne said, nearly one million swings from golfers all over the country are taken from TrackMan’s dataset per month and used to determine matches and mismatches based on a golfer’s profile. The data prioritizes the TrackMan Optimizer — essentially, what TrackMan swing analysis saw as optimal for any given swing — and triangulates that information with previous fitting data. It uses player characteristics like clubhead speed and attack angle alongside performance data like carry and ball speed to match results. In testing, the Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot was able to suggest both clubhead and shaft components with 95-100% accuracy.

“The key here is to understand that the Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot doesn’t replace a highly trained fitter,” said Sherburne. “Instead, it’s another tool in their toolbox and it allows them to spend more time with the golfer to tweak the details of the recommended components. You still have to understand the principles of fitting, the club technology, the golfer’s needs, how to interpret the data, and more — this is where the art and science of fitting come together for an even better experience.”

The Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot system was created with assistance from Inspire11, a global business and technology consulting firm based in Chicago, IL. One of their developers had been fitted by Club Champion and pitched the idea of an A.I.-assisted model to reduce fatigue during the popular 3.5-hour full bag fitting. A little over a year after the initial pitch, the program was rolled out to select studios as a test; that test was successful and the program is officially in use in all US studios as of July.

This is the first A.I.-assisted fitting technology of its kind in the world. Given Club Champion’s brand agnostic approach, the system was built to include over 65 golf brands and over 65,000 clubhead and shaft combinations. Even more impressively, the system is built to continue learning — as Club Champion fitters input data, the Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot will continue to learn and improve recommendations. The world’s best fitters are helping the world’s first fitting A.I. assistant get smarter with every fitting. This technology is proprietary to Club Champion and allows them to not only be the leader in the club fitting space, but also a pioneer in leveraging machine learning in their services.

“We’re always trying to find ways to improve the fitting process,” said Sherburne. “This new system isn’t just about showing off what we can do with technology, it’s also about listening to our customers when they say they love in-depth fittings but get tired after so many swings. It improves the fitter skillset AND the customer experience.”

The Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot data encompasses everything from driver to wedges; a putter version is in the works for the future. All fitters in Club Champion studios have been trained to employ the new system and every new trainee who enters the four-week Club Champion University program is taught how to use the program by Sherburne himself. Customers can expect their Club Champion fitters to use the Club Champion A.I. Fitter Co-Pilot in select fitting types effective immediately with plans to leverage the system in nearly all fitting types as needed by the end of the year.

Club Champion Expands Store Count With Four New Markets

The second quarter was another growth milestone for the club fitte

Willowbrook, IL – Club Champion, the globe’s top custom golf club fitter and builder, is continuing its meteoric surge of growth in 2022. The company continues to smash its own records by opening four new stores in the second quarter.

With additional locations from its international partners and studios now open in Huntsville, AL; Westport, CT; Colorado Springs, CO; and Peachtree City, GA, Club Champion has surpassed domestic 100 total locations after just over a decade on the market. There are now fitting studios in 42 U.S. states.

Since 2010, Club Champion has used components from over 60 brands, including names like Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, and many more to custom fit and build golf clubs for golfers all over the country, and now, globe. The company delivers a Tour-level fitting that produces longer, more accurate shots with a nearly 100% satisfaction rate for golfers of any ability level.

Every Club Champion studio features at least two indoor hitting bays with TrackMan launch monitors for analyzing performance, a SAM PuttLab system to find the perfect putter, and a build shop for repairing and assembling golf clubs by hand. The roughly 3,000 square foot spaces also include a demo matrix to display the head and shaft options that make up their 65,000 hittable combinations.

“Every single time it looks like we’re reaching the top of the mountain, there’s still more to climb,” said Nick Sherburne, founder of Club Champion. “I’m so proud of the progress our company has made and all the progress it will make as we continue our journey to find the best combination of components to help customers lower their scores and better enjoy the game.”

Ranked by Golf Digest as one of the 100 Best Club Fitters ten years running, Club Champion has a unique coupling system used to combine any head and shaft together, so golfers hit the precise combination they’ll use on the course. They also hand-build all their custom orders to the tightest tolerances in the industry using a single builder system — every order stays with the same builder from start to finish. No assembly lines or inconsistencies can be found as a part of the Club Champion build standards.

“These four new locations are helping more golfers improve their individual games with equipment that works perfectly for them,” said Sherburne. “We’ve seen golfers shave nearly ten strokes off their scores and we won’t stop until we can help every golfer that’s looking to improve their game through improved equipment.”

For a limited time, the new stores in Huntsville, Westport, Colorado Springs, and Peachtree City will celebrate their grand opening by offering 50% off fitting fees with an equipment purchase of $500 or more. Putter fittings are the only exception; they are 50% off with the purchase of a new putter. The studios are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information can be found at www.clubchampiongolf.com or by calling (888) 340-7820.

Club Champion Adds Leadership, Build Facilities, and More in 2022

Top club fitter continues expansion with new additions at HQ and beyond

Willowbrook, IL – The growth is continuing for at least one golf retailer in 2022 — Club Champion is seeing record expansion in every category, both domestically and internationally. In just under five months, the globe’s top custom club fitter has created a new base of operations in Arizona, expanded its Illinois build facility and headquarters, acquired three international partners, and hired new corporate leadership.

Nearing its twelfth year of business, Club Champion is recognized as the top custom club fitter in the USA and has recently expanded beyond domestic borders to claim the title worldwide. The brand offers Tour-quality club fittings and custom-built clubs for every level of golfer. Each state-of-the-art fitting studio houses over 65,000 hittable head and shaft combinations from over 60 golf manufacturers, alongside the best technology and talent the industry has to offer. Club Champion’s brand-agnostic approach has propelled them from a regional business to an award-winning international chain on an unprecedented growth trajectory.

“We’ve come out of the gate strong in 2022,” said Adam Levy, Club Champion CEO. “It began with establishing a new operational facility in Arizona and has continued through acquiring massively successful international brands and adding support and leadership across the organization. On the heels of all that, we’re now expanding our build facility here in Willowbrook, IL. The first two quarters of 2022 have been a huge victory for our team.”

The international expansion has made waves in recent months, with names like Tour Experience Golf (TXG) joining the Club Champion family. Golf Principles in the United Kingdom and PureForm Golf in Australia have also joined forces with North America’s premier fitter. All these partners share Club Champion’s brand agnostic fitting philosophy and now, the potential for growth in their respective regions is unlimited.

The warehouse expansion at the Willowbrook, IL headquarters features a major upgrade of space and work capability. The new warehouse is more than 26,000 square feet and features upgraded facilities and systems to streamline and optimize the build process from start to finish.

The increased demand that led to the HQ expansion also prompted the construction of a brand-new space in Tempe, AZ. This new 34,000 square-foot facility will handle the club building operations for the western and southern regions of the US.

“Our footprint is growing so our capabilities here in the build shop and beyond needed to keep pace,” Levy said. “It feels like we’re adding something new every day but that’s what helps motivate us. We know we’re serving hundreds of thousands of golfers and these new additions help us provide even more incredible experiences for our clients.”

Additionally, the company has added leadership: CFO, Jon Reepmeyer; VP of Sales, Mike Glienke; Director of Operations (Willowbrook), David Hefling; Director of Operations (Tempe), Curt Cather; Director of Digital, Kevin Iaquinto; and Director of Human Resources, Carol Kozlowski.

The cherry on top of this expansion is the company’s domestic growth, since Club Champion’s roots are here in the USA. The fitter will open its 100th store in Q2 as well as celebrate the opening of a brand-new flagship studio concept on 42nd Street in New York City.

“When our founder Nick Sherburne started this ride, one hundred stores felt like a pipedream,” Levy said. “Here we are, just over a decade later, talking about the next phase and seeing that anything is attainable so long as you keep your core purpose in mind. For us, that’s upgrading the equipment and on-course experience of passionate golfers who want to play their best golf.”

Club Champion Acquires UK-Based Custom Fitter Golf Principles

North American powerhouse expands across the Atlantic

Willowbrook, IL – North America’s top golf club fitter and builder, Club Champion, has acquired Golf Principles, a custom fitter and builder based in the United Kingdom. This new alignment continues Club Champion’s expansion beyond the borders of the United States, further increasing their footprint and consumer access to Tour-level fittings for all golfers worldwide.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Jason [MacNiven] and his team to the family here at Club Champion,” said Adam Levy, CEO of Club Champion. “Their mission to help golfers play their best aligns perfectly with Club Champion and our goals for the future.”

This will be the first time that Club Champion has branched out beyond the North American continent. Earlier in the year, the brand announced the acquisition of Canadian fitter, Tour Experience Golf (TXG); this was the first step in a now multi-faceted effort to expand across the globe. The intent behind this latest merger is to bolster that expansion plan while simultaneously enhancing the stellar services that Golf Principles currently provides.

“We’ve always admired Club Champion’s mission and methodology,” said MacNiven, founder of Golf Principles. “We’re all working toward the same objective: helping more golfers improve through better fitted equipment. This move puts us in an even better position to achieve that goal and expand our services across the UK.”

MacNiven’s career in club-fitting began when he started working for Callaway in 1996. He quickly amassed over 10,000 hours of experience fitting golfers of all levels – including Colin Montgomerie in his prime – across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. After a lengthy career at TaylorMade, MacNiven founded Golf Principles in 2008 in an effort to bring the best results to every golfer he fits by offering a broad assortment of heads, shafts, and grips from most leading manufacturers. Their main fitting facility is in Basingstoke, however, they branch out frequently via partner clubs to reach other areas of South England. Like Club Champion, they strive to help golfers of any skill level and custom assemble their clients’ clubs via their highly trained builders.

“The partnership just made sense,” said Levy. “Golf Principles’ incredible reputation and similar fitting philosophy made this decision an easy one, and our shared goal of golf improvement is universal.”

Club Champion Year In Review — Club Champion Swings Onward and Upward in 2021

Custom club fitter sees growth in corporate and retail environments to remain nation’s best

Willowbrook, IL — The game of golf requires a certain optimism — players keep coming back regardless of the challenges. The golf industry has seen the perseverance of that optimism in recent years, with 2021 being the biggest year on record for many golf brands. Club Champion, the nation’s top custom club fitter and builder, was no exception.

The fitter’s dynamic vision has led Golf Digest to include them in the bi-annual Top 100 Clubfitters ranking since the inception of the list. The company’s thorough processes and attention to detail have gained a strong recognition among golfers, leading to an overall revenue growth of 58% year-over-year and over 90,000 fittings in 2021.

“The world has changed but golf has never been more of a constant,” said Club Champion founder, Nick Sherburne. “We have more new golfers than ever and more people returning to the sport since you can safely participate. Because of all that, the demand for the game is through the roof and we’ve done everything we can to meet that demand.”

Two of the many tactics to meet the demand were rapid brick-and-mortar growth domestically and strategic international acquisitions. In 2021, Club Champion opened 14 new stores and relocated three key studios to better service the golfers in those markets. The store count as of publishing is 90 studios, all fully equipped with TrackMan, SAM PuttLab, and over 65,000 hittable head and shaft combinations. Late in the year, the company also acquired top Canadian fitter Tour Experience Golf (TXG) as the first stepping stone toward an international presence.

In addition to a wider footprint, Club Champion also saw incredible team growth — in 2021 alone, the employee roster increased by 35%. At the head of the new hires, Club Champion brought in CEO Adam Levy, a proven executive charged with navigating the new retail landscape and the unprecedented call for all things golf.

“Joining Club Champion was like jumping on a moving train that’s headed for an unknown destination,” Levy said. “In my first year, we’ve exceeded expectations and the plan now is direct that driving force toward 2022 to see how we can continue to evolve and grow as a brand that puts service above all else.”

Club Champion’s external support also expanded, with a revamped roster of brand ambassadors. Major winners Bryson DeChambeau and Lexi Thompson are at the head of the pack, along with PGA Tour legend Jim Furyk, unequaled social influencer Paige Spiranac, instructing great Michael Breed, and LPGA rising star Louise Ridderström.

Behind the scenes, the fitter’s Chicagoland build shop was a rising star in its own right, producing more than 360,000 hand-built golf clubs during the year. Those impeccably built clubs contribute directly to the company’s on-course claims, including the fact that Club Champion custom-fit golfers add an average of 21 yards off the tee. That statistic was proven by a Golf Digest study, along with a metric showing an average six-stroke improvement per round with custom fitted and built clubs.

To round out an incredible year of firsts and record-breaking results, Club Champion also reported the following:

78% of all fittings were first-time customers, further supporting the growth in beginner and returning golfer segments

Over 4,000 pieces of content were created by the Club Champion team, including video content on their YouTube channel and episodes of their podcast, Fits with the Founder

Roughly 9.83 million golf balls were hit in fittings in 2021

Over 197,000 hours were spent in fitting bays — that’s over 8,000 full days

Looking ahead, Club Champion has plans to continue growth in North America and beyond in 2022, along with the addition of a flagship studio in NYC. Content expansion is top of mind as well, with plans to loop the TXG team into video production and industry-leading guests into the podcast.

“We’re just scratching the surface,” said Levy. “With fittings, with content, with what we can offer. 2021 was an incredible year and now we’re stepping up to the tee in 2022 to set the next set of records.”
